Desecration of the sacred

Dear Editor:

St.Paul’s not only belongs to the Church, it’s a historical component of Port Townsend.

Hey everyone, listen up!

You may not know about St. Paul’s, but you’ve seen the church with the red doors across from the Bell Tower. You might drive passed it every day. Well, have you ever been inside?

If not, you should take a peek because the interior is about  to be dismantled. The church with the red doors is 163 years old. Many of the new parishioners think it’s too dark inside, uncomfortable, and dangerous!

The plan is to remodel, replacing the pews, lighting, stained glass windows, paint over the faux wood grain painted wainscoting, the altar, fonts, and make it all new and modern.

I was born and raised in Port Townsend and my grandparents arrived here in the late 1800s. I’ve been a member of St. Paul’s for only 40 years and in that time I’ve prayed, worshipped, celebrated marriages, graduations, baptisms, and memorials for the rectors, family and friends, all that and more in that church with the red doors.
