GLOBAL WARMING, COUPLED WITH RACISM, in my mind, is paving the way for these horsemen. The apocalypse, whether inspired by the judgment of a god or by Mother Nature, is real and it’s coming our way—not just as a non-immediate species extinction thing, but also as a close-up geographic reality.

And it’s not only the criminal conquest of their home countries but also the drought (and famine that’s sure to follow) brought on by climate change that is driving refugees from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador to join into caravans to trek thousands of miles to our southern U.S. border seeking humanitarian aid—citizenship or asylum . . . refuge, and perhaps a bit of brotherly/sisterly love. Ironically, Donald recently cut off all finances budgeted to these countries as humanitarian aid under an Obama program. That program reportedly had been showing some success in improving living conditions there. But Donald apparently would prefer to direct such funding into his military-industrial complex one way or another.

These caravaners are met at the Rio Grande by the forces of our definitely snow-white president, himself supported by his legion of xenophobes and racists, who is engaged in an all-out war of sorts against the world’s not-quite-white population.

This grandson of Euro-white immigrants has demonized present-day Hispanic immigrants to the south as murderers, rapists, drug smugglers and sex traffickers—out of an imagined reality that suits his racist prejudices—when their numbers actually are more inclusive of mothers fleeing violence and children threatened with same, plus fathers driven by a need to provide for their families. A great many of them are not only poverty-stricken but are also half-starved. They live on and come to us mainly as survivors—contrary to th antics of wayward brains in high places that portray them otherwise.

It might not be an actual all-out, old-fashioned, blood-letting war, but so far Donald’s managed to forcibly separate numerous children from their mothers and send them off to camps, used a little tear gas, emboldened white-supremacist armed militias . . .

In frustration he also has undertaken an ethnic cleansing of the country through searching out and deporting Hispanic illegal aliens, no matter if some may have spent up to 20 years as productive and law-abiding citizens. Show me some Caucasians who have been approached by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in this regard and I might allow that there’s not actually a lot of all-out racial programming involved.

Contributing to this racial and environmental apocalypse is the fact that no matter how much most of us want to provide deal empathetically with the world’s burgeoning over-population, we eventually will be hard pressed to do so in a truly humanitarian way as arable land and living space shrink away. Pestilence surely will be an apocalyptic result. It already has been developing and getting the better of medical technology on occasion. We’ll probably also wind up clawing and scratching at one another over a dwindling fresh-water supply.

MORE CLIMATE CHANGE—May 11: “Rain, flooding and hail again pummeled the Houston region Friday. . .” Serious flooding was affecting not only Texas but also parts of the southern plains, the South and Great Lakes. Excessive rains through the country came just as the National Atmospheric and Atmospheric Administration (which often frustrates Donald with facts opposing his lies) released data showing “the past 12 months have been the wettest in history for the Lower 48 states.”

ADDENDA—Drought has plagued Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador in recent years. More than half a million were affected in 1914, the Red Cross reported. The level of chronic malnutrition in Honduras at that time was 22.6% [of roughly 8.5 million people], and 42.5% of Hondurans lived in extreme poverty. Jumping ahead to October 2018, with drought having continued annually, CNN reported that migrants had a choice of starving or leaving home. Crops were failing and farmers were becoming “climate refugees.” A November 2018 story noted: “Because of the year-round warmth in Honduras, farmers have traditionally planted crops twice a year – once in May and a second time beginning in August, a planting period known as the “postrera.” This year was different. In 2018, both rounds of crops were hit by extreme weather.

Donald Trump chooses to describe this multitude of struggling small-plot farmers as likely rapists and possible terrorists . . . as he also continues to deny the existence of climate change and continues to pander to polluting industry. Have I wandered too far afield from the the subject of an apocalypse? I don’t think so. I merely have viewed it more as a prolonged whimper than some sort of a sudden bang.
