Daniel Arthur Holme passed away on November 8, 2018 in a nursing home in Sequim, after a fall that fractured his right shoulder. Dan was born on June 7, 1931 in Schenectady, New York, to Louise Whitcomb and Stanley Arthur Holme. Dan graduated from Yale University in 1953 with a degree in electrical engineering and immediately began his career with General Electric; that same year he married his college sweetheart Christine Ryan Ewalt.

His son Stanley Arthur was born in 1955, and Stephen Charles in 1958. In 1967, Dan joined the Lightnin Mixer Company (LMC) in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and in 1974 the family moved to Barrington, Illinois. Dan retired from LMC in 1993. In 1999, Dan and Chris moved to Port Townsend, Washington to be part of a small-town seaport community.

Dan loved history, traveling, and golf. He was a longtime member of the Discovery Bay Golf Club. In addition to their yearly pilgrimage to Bermuda, Dan and Chris were frequent visitors to Europe. They also enjoyed unusual trips such as ice fishing in Barrow, Alaska, Zodiac tours in South America, exploring the Australian outback and visiting the remote and mostly inaccessible island of Tristan de Cunha.

One of his greatest accomplishments was getting Chris to accompany him on these adventures. Dan had limitless energy and an unquenchable curiosity about the world, so as soon as he returned from one trip, he was planning another.

Dan is survived by the following family members: his sons Stanley Arthur and Stephen Charles; his daughter-in-law Jeana and his two adult grandchildren Michael Christian and Heather Hilary Holme, Dan’s beloved sister Susan Dramm, and brother Jack Holme, who maintained close and supportive relationships with Dan throughout his life. Other close and loving in-laws include sister-in-law Dottie Holme, and brother-in-law Terry Ewalt and his wife Janet. Dan is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dan was loved; may he rest in peace.
