Eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported by public health officials Friday in Jefferson County.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, a total of 160 people have tested positive for the disease through Nov. 27, according to Jefferson County Public Health.

The new cases reported Friday involve four people from the mid-county area, three from Port Townsend, and one from south county.

In the mid-county area, a woman in her 60s, a woman in her 70s, and a man in his 40s tested positive for COVID-19. A female under the age of 20 was also infected.

The south county case involved a woman in her 70s.

In Port Townsend, three women — one in her 20s and two in their 50s — were found to have COVID-19.

One death to the coronavirus has been linked to a Jefferson County resident. Earlier this week, Jefferson County Public Health Officer Dr. Tom Locke said a woman in her 90s who was chronically ill and receiving hospice care had died from COVID.

County health officials note that 87 residents in the county have recovered from COVID-19 and are no longer hospitalized.

Health officials said 24 people with active COVID-19 cases were still in isolation.

According to Jefferson County Public Health, a total of 12,759 patients have been tested for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and 12,594 have tested negative.

Test results are still pending for five people.

Through Friday, 83 COVID cases have been found in Port Townsend residents; 62 in mid-county residents; and 15 in south county (Quilcene, Brinnon, and West Jefferson).

Women now outnumber men in the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Jefferson County; 82 females have tested positive through Friday, and 78 males have tested positive.
