Coastal flood warning in effect on West End

As significant rainfall continues across Western Washington, a coastal flood warning has been issued for the North Coast and Central Coast zones until 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27.

The area includes the coastal areas of Jefferson and Clallam counties.

The National Weather Service has also announced a storm warning for the Strait of Juan de Fuca, from 4 p.m. Tuesday until 1 a.m. Wednesday. Southwest winds of 40 to 50 knots are expected.

On the coast, significant flooding is expected.

According to the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management, numerous roads may be closed and low-lying property — including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure — will be inundated. Some shoreline erosion is also expected.

High tide anomalies of 1 to 2 feet are forecast, and after high tide later Tuesday, swells building to 25 to 27 feet are expected.
