City of Port Townsend releases annual report for 2020

Posted

In its first annual report, the city of Port Townsend examined its challenges, achievements, finances and other lessons learned in 2020.

“The Port Townsend community deserves to know what the city has accomplished with our collective resources this year and every year forward,” said Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro.

“We are  committed to continuous learning and improvement, so this report is upfront about the unique challenges we faced this year, and some of the lessons we learned that will help us improve our approach for future  years,” he added. “The upshot: Staff and elected members did very well responsibly stewarding limited city resources during the brutal difficulties of the pandemic. We are eager to put ourselves in an even more sustainable and resilient position in the coming years through a deliberate, community-facing effort. It’ll be all-hands on-deck and – dare I say – possibly a good deal of fun.”

The document, made public late last week, focuses on five main areas: accessibility, creativity, continuity, collaboration and sustainability.

It also details the city’s financial position, where revenue is coming from, what revenue streams are funding, and the constraints placed on how funds are being spent.

“The city’s annual report offers our community important take-aways from the last year, augmenting the financial basics with a narrative of  our journey through 2020,” said Finance Manager Tony Hillman.

“We want to bring the community we serve more deeply into the details of how we operate so that they can be ready to engage more deeply  in the democratic process – particularly in the development of next year’s budget,” Hillman added.
