City extends grace period on late payments

Posted

The city of Port Townsend has once again extended its moratorium on utility shut-offs for delinquent customers due to the economic challenges being felt by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In March, City Manager John Mauro signed a proclamation suspending shut-offs, late fees and penalties through June 30.

Then on June 15, that suspension was again extended to Aug. 31 and once more to Dec. 31.

With Gov. Jay Inslee recently calling upon utility owners to suspend shut-offs and waive late fees and penalties, the city has again extended the suspension until April 30.

The resolution waives all late fees and penalties for Port Townsend utilities accounts from March 1, 2020 through April 30, 2021.

The proposed resolution also states that the city will not require full payment of unpaid utility accounts prior to restoring service for the same period.
