After discovering they were short on money to fund a trip to Carmichael Middle School in Richland for the Washington State Knowledge Bowl championships, Chimacum High’s team was worried the trip wouldn’t happen.
But their saving grace came in the form of a $674 donation gathered from members of the Chimacum community.
Sean DeVries of Foggy Hog Farms noticed the Knowledge Bowl team’s need for funds and decided to help the kids by donating $250 courtesy of the farm, and asking locals to contribute as well.
“I raised the [trip funds] by standing in front of Chimacum Corner Farmstand, asking for their donations,” DeVries said. “I want to be doing good work in the community.”
He also came onto radio station KPTZ last Friday to ask locals to help the team make it to State.
After a plethora of support from residents, DeVries and company reached their goal of sending the Knowledge Bowl team to Richland.
Without the support of Chimacum’s community, that crucial donation never would’ve happened, DeVries said.
