The Chimacum School District confirmed June 6 that Jason Lynch has been selected as the new principal for Chimacum Elementary.

Chimacum Superintendent Rick Thompson issued a press release touting Lynch’s “rich background” as an elementary teacher, Title I director and administrative intern who was selected “from a very competitive pool of experienced educators.”

Thompson elaborated that the selection committee took note of Lynch’s “local ties,” since he’s currently employed as the reading specialist at Grant Street Elementary and the Title 1/LAP coordinator for the Port Townsend School District.

The committee also took into consideration Lynch’s teaching experience in different elementary grade levels, “his energy for student success and his passion for the work,” according to Thompson.

Lynch’s annual salary is to be $91,223 in his new position in Chimacum.

Mark Barga, the current principal, is expected to retire this month, so that Lynch can begin his duties July 1.

“I saw in Jason a wonderful leader who has the skills and the excitement to work with our third- through fifth-grade students and their families,” Thompson said.

A replacement for Chimacum High School Principal Whitney Meissner, who resigned earlier this year to take a position as superintendent of the La Conner School District, is expected to be announced later this week.
