The Chimacum Cowboys baseball team hit one home after winning their opening game of the season. “It’s been a long time since we started our season with a win,” said Chimacum coach Bob Eldridge. “It feels good.” The Cowboys ended 9-3 at home against Kingston March 11. Issac Purser led the Cowboys with four hits, followed by Cody Clark with three. Clark also had four RBIs. Cole Dotson lead the pitching stats with a 4.2 average in the first game. “Out pitching was good,” Eldridge said. “We got into a little trouble the first inning but got out of it.” Purser also pitched in the game, coming back after an injury last season. “It feels good to be back,” Purser said. Looking forward to the season, Purser said he is excited about what the team can do. “We have a really good chance of winning league,” Purser said. The Cowboys were set to play at Forks March 12, however, Eldridge noted March 11 that could change dependent upon the weather. At the time of deadline, the game was still set for 4 p.m. In the Olympic 1A League, Klahowya also started its season with a win, tying Klahowya and Chimacum for first in the league. Port Townsend, who is also in the league, will not play its first game until March 15 at Kingston as the March 11 opener against South Whidbey was canceled.
