The Medicare eligible among us will find familiar many things unheard of in the more virile times of our lives. It seems that now whenever we consult with a medical professional, it becomes apparent that there is one phrase they were taught in medical school to use with us. “You know, you are getting older.” Baloney, my father is getting older. Oh wait, he passed away in 1968. Over the past two weeks BJ has had cataract surgery on both eyes and a couple of consultations or treatments on her back. Six trips to the doctors in two weeks and I suspect she may be among the several filling their schedules with similar trips. Did we know this was going to happen to us?

We went with about 20 others to a delightful group dinner of Chinese food at “Taste” in Poulsbo. There were 33 separate dishes being served on the big “lazy susan” the restaurant has. Yep, it is not true that if you eat Chinese you are ready to eat again in hour. It took about a week.

The eleven-year-old grandson plays clarinet in his middle school band so we went to Seattle to enjoy and celebrate his participation. There were actually two bands, each playing two songs, and the concert was over in 15 minutes. He says he is not going to play clarinet next year in the sixth grade as he wants to concentrate on his piano. Jerry Lee Lewis maybe?

The local rumor mill is alive with the potential for a new contractor for the local post office. This man is grateful to Francis Rawski for the work she has done to upgrade the appearance of the facility and generate some Village Center traffic as the Wednesday evening car cruise-in takes off. On display the first week, one car, second week five cars, third week, ten cars, fourth week 26 cars. The local stores should consider a commission for Francis given the crowds being drawn to the village center.

The Port Ludlow Yacht Club Opening Day celebration is this Saturday down at the Marina. To help celebrate, the Coast Guard Cutter Osprey will be open for tours at 1:00 p.m. She will be moored at the fuel dock in the marina near the Inn. The Osprey is an 87’ cutter home-ported in Port Townsend and is in the same class of cutter that routinely moors to the buoy in Ludlow Bay. The 12 person mixed gender crew is very appreciative of the support Port Ludlow provided the Coast Guard during the January government shutdown and is anxious to show off your vessel. Prospective guests should take into account that access will involve inclines, and access to the interior of the vessel, especially the bridge, can be steep. Parking will be available at the marina parking lot.

The “Sock Hop” returns! LMC members and their guests are in for some fun on Saturday, May 18 at the monthly pot-luck. The show starts at 6 p.m. at the Beach Club as we indulge in the appetizers all have brought to get through the evening. Then the music by well-known duo Michael and Leslie will give you a reason to dance or maybe just be reminded of the mistakes of your misguided youth. You can sign up ahead of time at the Beach Club for $10 or at the door for $15. Break out your poodle skirts and leather jackets for another evening to be remembered. Remember what Peter York is supposed to have said, “Rock and Roll is the hamburger that ate the world!” Yeah, it was that “pot” stuff.

If you didn’t understand the really obtuse headline, the two kinds of chopsticks are those you eat with and those you play on the piano. I promise to do better in the future.
