It’s been disheartening reading the newsletters included with the last two PUD bills.

Rise after rise, no matter how high the base rates are the powers that be always insist that they are not covering costs.

Hmmm. Now, why might that be?

It’s certainly not inexpensive to live in Port Townsend, and there’s definitely not an overabundance of jobs that allow people to do so without much stress.

It’s my contention that our city government costs us way too much for what we’ve been getting out of it.

How about doing your job: Let’s have a finely detailed article on how much we are (over)paying those who are making it so expensive for the rest of us; mayor, city manager (a real sore spot), city council, flaggers, every clerk in every government building. Salary, perks, the whole shebang. Total it up. and let’s see what it costs us just to have them on payroll.

Then, let’s ask ourselves: Is it worth it to us, especially if we constantly have our bills raised because they’re “not covering costs”?

I’d say it’s time for a cost-of-living adjustment for city government — downward, toward a more reasonable level. They’re public servants.  We don’t owe it to them to make them wealthy. Most of us paying them certainly are not.
