Honor the darkness and welcome the light on the winter solstice on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Port Townsend is hosting events that invite the community to warm up on the shortest day of the year through celebratory bonfires, prayerful songs and rituals at the following events:

Winter solstice service: Meditative ritual and bonfire

Gather to celebrate the winter solstice through silence, meditation, music, song and ritual at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (QUUF), 2333 San Juan Ave.

All are welcome to attend the 4:30 p.m. service presented by the Rev. Florence Caplow in the QUUF sanctuary.

A solstice celebration especially for younger children is to be offered by Kathy Stevenson.

At 6:30 p.m., following the interactive and meditative ritual at QUUF, a celebratory bonfire is planned to take place at the kitchen shelter at Fort Worden.

Guests are invited to bring finger food and nonalcoholic drinks to share. The community is invited to attend one or both events. For more information, visit quuf.org.

‘A Light in the Darkness’ – Fire cabaret show and dance

Velvet Revolution Fire Collective presents a cabaret show and solstice celebration dance with DJ Moonwolf at 7 p.m. at 1208 Water St. in the parking lot of the Ichikawa restaurant, across from the ferry terminal.

“A Light in the Darkness” is an outdoor event, so guests should dress warmly. The event is free for all ages. A beer garden with a saketini bar is available for those older than 21, and Ichikawa is also to provide a special menu from the patio. For more information, visit velvetrevolution.events.

Winter solstice concert: Alexa Rose, Simon DeVoil, Leaf Lovetree

Unity Spiritual Enrichment Center presents a cozy winter solstice concert of meditative music and prayerful song from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the church, 3918 San Juan Ave. The event features acoustic music by Alexa Rose, Simon DeVoil and Leaf Lovetree. Admission is on a sliding scale of $8-$20, although no one is turned away for lack of funds.
