At some point during the show, Joe Euro will “go rouge.”
Euro, a Classical/Neo-Classical finger-style guitarist, is the headliner for the next Candlelight Concert at Trinity United Methodist Church. He will play at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27.
The performance will be one set with no intermission. In addition to in-person attendance at Trinity United Methodist, the concert will also be streamed live at trinityumcpt.org/concerts via a link for Candlelight Concerts Online and ways to donate.
Organizers said the performance is expected to feature acoustic, instrumental Neo-Classical/Finger Style guitar, highlighting many of Euro’s original Neo-Classical compositions.
There will also be some actual classical guitar pieces, “plucked from the classical guitar repertoire.”
While his style of play is often referred to as classical guitar, Euro noted he neither has the time nor the discipline to stay on top of that repertoire. Euro is more inclined to play neo-classical pieces and arrangements, often composed by him, and often utilizing a few different open tunings.
While he’ll have a tentative set list for his performance, the audience should expect he may deviate from those selections.
The concert set may also include arrangements of light jazz standards and a few covers.
Euro may also bring back his “Big Spacey Sound,” with “Ambient Space Guitar” pieces that utilize a digital reverb and a volume pedal for a Taj Mahal-like reverb. Concert promoters say it’s a sound he enjoyed developing and experimenting with when he moved to the area back in the late 1970s and would bring his guitar into the bunkers at Fort Flagler and the cistern at Fort Worden.
Euro is known off-stage as the founder of The Wine Seller, which he started in 1982 and is located in downtown Port Townsend.
Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $15 per person. Half of the donation proceeds from this concert will go to Euro’s chosen charity, Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County.
Trinity United Methodist Church is located at 609 Taylor St., across from the Community Center in Uptown. Attendees should plan on arriving early; doors will open at 6:30 p.m. April 27. Masks are required for in-person attendees.
In addition to in-person and online streaming, the concert will also be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9.
