Call to all writers: Respond to art, Aug. 8

As part of the 19th annual Art Port Townsend festival, writers are invited to stop by the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St., for the Ekphrastic Write-In. The event is set for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8. Writers would respond to the show “Expressions Northwest,” which is part of the festival.

“This is to connect one group of artists with another group,” said event organizer Bill Mawhinney, who runs a free weekly reading series at Northwind that’s now in its 11th season.

The term “ekphrastic,” Mawhinney said, is a “10-dollar Greek word,” which in this context refers to “the literary representation of/or a response to visual art.”

All writers are invited to attend. Any writer who responds also is invited to read at the presentation, Mawhinney said.
