Brinnon School District adjusts hybrid learning model amid rise in COVID-19 infections

Posted

Brinnon School District will be making changes to its hybrid learning model amid a rise in COVID-19 infections throughout Jefferson County.

An email sent by Brinnon School District Superintendent Patricia Beathard Monday stated that the district would be rethinking its hybrid model.

Previously, a fully-remote learning option was made available by the district to any family that requested it, but students could still attend classes in-person Monday through Friday, with the exception of Wednesday which would be used as a sanitizing day for the school.

Starting next Monday, Nov. 30, students will attend class in-person two days per week depending on their grade.

Kindergarteners, second-graders, fourth-graders, seventh-graders and eighth-graders will go to school Mondays and Tuesdays. Transitional kindergarteners, first-graders, third-graders, fifth-graders and sixth-graders will attend class on Thursdays and Fridays.

The district will continue to offer its fully-remote learning option for families who so choose.

The district will be sending breakfasts and lunches to students on the three remote days each week. Families who wish to opt out of the meal service can do so by calling the district directly.

The new hybrid learning model will be evaluated on a weekly basis and changed if necessary to a fully-remote or in-person instruction depending on transmission rates of COVID-19 in Jefferson County.
