‘Bow wow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay’

Mountain View Dog Park was officially Grand Opened on Sept. 13 at 1925 Blaine St. But dogs and their people started using it pretty much as soon as the double-gated sally port was in place. On a recent afternoon, there was a clutch of dog owners standing at the top of the small rise at the north end of the facility and a tangle of dogs running, nipping, snarling and tackling one another uphill and down. September is designated as “Responsible Dog Ownership Month” by the American Kennel Club, and city officials see the dog park’s opening as perfectly timed. Debbie and Rick Jahnke, along with DROP (Dog Recreation On the Peninsula), have been praised by city officials for their roles in getting the new dog park up and running. In return, Debbie Jahnke, chair of the Parks, Recreation and Trees Advisory Board for the city, credited city Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Alex Wisniewski and his staff with delivering the dog park. “We just gave you a fence,” Jahnke said. “Now go play!” For further information, and a map of the new dog park, go to www.cityofpt.us, and under “Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department,” look under “Department News.”
