Body found near North Beach on April 12

Man reportedly texted about committing suicide

A Port Townsend man’s body has been found near North Beach in a suspected suicide, according to the county coroner.

Colin J. Krusor was 40 years old, and apparently lived in Port Townsend with his girlfriend, near the Discovery Bay Golf Course, according to Sheriff Joe Nole.

Port Townsend Police and East Jefferson Fire Rescue personnel responded to a call Friday, April 12 from a person who reported seeing a man who appeared to be dead near North Beach that same day.

According to Port Townsend Police Public Information Officer Keppie Keplinger, due to the terrain of the area, it took law enforcement close to an hour to reach the location where the man’s body was found.

Keplinger reported Krusor’s family had related their concerns to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies on the evening of April 11, after a family member received a text message from Krusor indicating that he intended to end his life.

Nole specified that Krusor’s mother had called from Idaho around 5:20 p.m. to say that her son had said goodbye to her through a text-messaged suicide note.

“He had sent several vague messages to his mom, saying that he loved her and saying goodbye,” Nole said.

Deputies went out looking for Krusor, and his vehicle was spotted at North Beach parking lot by a Port Townsend Police officer around 7:30 p.m.

The officer saw a man matching Krusor’s description 30-40 yards away.

“The officer called out to him by name, and (Krusor) took off running into the woods,” Nole said. “Deputies searched until dark, until they determined it was too dangerous to keep searching, because they were unsure if he was armed.”

Deputies continued to ping Krusor’s phone location, which showed he was on Orcas Island.

“They thought that was likely a mistake,” Nole said.

From there, Port Townsend Police officers took over the search case, from the evening of April 11 through the morning of April 12, and Krusor was located dead at 4:12 a.m.

In the April 17 print edition of this story, Krusor's age was was listed  incorrectly. The online edition has been amended to correct this error.
