Port Townsend domestic violence shelter Dove House was recently presented with a check in the amount of $17,662 from the Olympic Peninsula Bluebills.

The money was raised at the Dove House benefit golf tournament in August.

James Mueller and Barbara Berthiaume from the Bluebills presented the check to Bekka Bloom from Dove House.

Bloom stated that the entire amount will be used for direct client services.

“Being able to move from a place of fear and hopelessness toward increased self-sufficiency and renewed hope depends on an ability to obtain affordable housing, services for healing, and the many other resources needed to rebuild lives,” she added.

As a peninsula support organization, the Bluebills have been raising funds and helping folks since 1998 and is a nonprofit designed to support students and families of the Olympic Peninsula by supplying food and supplies, helping provide fall prevention for elderly, supporting advocacy services to crime victims, and supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM in grades K-12.

The Bluebills also provide American Disabilities Act appropriate access ramps for folks who couldn’t otherwise access their homes. The Bluebills partner with Catholic Community Services for insurance. Although most funding for material is provided by the client, funding is also provided by Real Estate Professionals for Affordable Housing, St. Vincent DePaul, Legion and Elks clubs and various other agencies. The work involved is donated by Bluebill volunteers. Requests for services are received from agencies, community organizations, and individuals themselves.

To date, the builders have installed more than 1,220 wheelchair ramps, plus roughly 1,400 miscellaneous repairs and modifications, and have assisted more than 5,000 people.

The Bluebills also partner with the Olympic Community Action Program to address homelessness on the peninsula.

Periodic paper goods and clothing drives are conducted as needed.

Each year, the Annual Christmas giving program raises money to provide gifts for homeless children.
