Two students from the Port Townsend band program were selected to perform with honor bands in conjunction with the National Association for Music Education’s Biennial Northwest Conference held in Bellevue, Feb. 16-19.

The students, Kincaid Gould and Maya Dow, were selected through a recorded audition process submitted in October.

Gould, a freshman, plays clarinet and was selected for the All-Northwest Wind Symphony, which consists of players from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.

He also performed with the Junior All-State Band in February 2015 and 2016, performs each year at the North Olympic Music Educators (NOME) Regional Solo & Ensemble Contest, and plays with the Port Townsend High School Band and PTHS Jazz Band.

Dow, a Blue Heron Middle School seventh-grade trumpet player, was selected for the Junior All-State Band. She performed last year with the All-State Youth Chorus in Yakima.

In addition to playing trumpet in the Blue Heron Wind Ensemble and PTHS Jazz Band, Dow sings with a community youth chorus and plays violin. She also performed at last year’s NOME Regional Solo & Ensemble Contest.
