Black bear prompts lockdown at Brinnon School

Posted

Brinnon School went into a lockdown Monday afternoon after a large black bear was seen on the school's property.

The bear had been seen earlier in the neighborhood, just before noon Sept. 19, near the community center.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the bear remained just outside one of the doors of Brinnon School while the students were kept inside.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife was contacted, and as of 2 p.m., Jefferson County deputies were still on site attempting to coax the bear across the highway in order to allow the students to leave the school.
