To celebrate health-care workers in Jefferson County, community members are invited to participate in a bicycle and car parade around Jefferson Healthcare from 12 to 12:15 p.m. on May 13.
Cyclists will meet at 10th and Sheridan streets, a safe 6 feet away from each other. Cars will line up along Sheridan. All will drive and ride by the hospital honking, yelling and holding up signs of gratitude.
“Don’t be late,” wrote Kees Kolf, an organizer of the event. “It will be short, loud and heartfelt.”
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, events like this have been organized around the world to share gratitude for the health-care workers who are caring for COVID-19 patients.
Some cities organized a nightly “cheer” out of windows and balconies for health-care workers.
“It is so easy to forget how lucky we are to have Jefferson Healthcare in our small rural county,” wrote Kolf in a letter to the editor. “The staff has responded to the challenges of this pandemic with dedication and expertise. They have prepared for the worst and have shown their best.”
