Barrie Stork Gustin (born Coles) passed away on November 13th, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 85. She was born on January 13th, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York to Barak Gritman Coles Jr. and Dorothy Jane Coles (born Damon).
Barrie moved to Vancouver, British Columbia as a young girl and attended the University of British Columbia where she graduated with a degree in microbiology. During this time she met Stanley Gustin whom she married in 1959.
During the 1960s Barrie raised her three children, took care of the house and supported Stanley’s career. In the early 1970s, Barrie returned to school to earn her nursing degree and graduated at the top of her class. She worked as a registered nurse in the intensive care unit at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut and then at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California until her retirement in the late 1990s.
Upon retiring in Saratoga, California, Barrie enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, reading, hiking and traveling the world with Stan. Barrie eventually moved to Port Ludlow, Washington, and later downtown Seattle, before moving to Lacey, Washington, and finally Phoenix, Arizona to be near family. She was an active member of all the senior communities where she lived, including volunteering in their Restores and advocating for emergency preparedness.
Barrie was preceded in death by her son Adam and her husband of 63 years Stan. She is survived by her daughter Ann Basil and son Kurt (Joan) Gustin, her grandchildren Chris (Emily) Basil, Jessica Basil and Evan Gustin, and her great-grandchildren: Skylar, Everly and Tori.
