Barbara Ann Barnard Bogart passed away peacefully at her beautiful home in Port Townsend, Washington in her sleep on March 11, 2022, surrounded by her dedicated caregiving team who allowed her to live out her last years in the historical Sims House.

She was preceded in passing by her husband of 45 years, Lowell.

Born Sept. 8, 1935, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Barbara was her high school’s valedictorian. She married Air Force Staff Sgt. Frederick “Fred” Boney (dec) in 1954. She later married Lowell Bogart in 1973.

The family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma and “discovered” Port Townsend two years later during a road trip. They purchased The James House Bed & Breakfast Inn which became famous worldwide and was featured in several publications including Sunset, a Nordstrom catalog, and various travel guides.

After the sale of The James House, Barbara became a distinguished and well-respected realtor in the region. She was elected the first female President of the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce. She loved Port Townsend and was a pillar of the community. She and Lowell gave generously of their time and financial support to PT institutions including Centrum, Rotary, and the historical society, to name a few. They were instrumental in many PT efforts, including the move of the ferry dock from mid-downtown to its current location.

Barbara is survived by her children Marty (and Jack) Lind; Rick Boney; Jennifer (and Gayle) Schenk; stepdaughter Colette (and Brad); seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sisters Marsha Alegre and Sara Lumpkin. She was preceded in passing by her daughter Suzanne Boney and stepson Patrick Bogart.

Barbara’s leadership, energy, and enthusiasm for her beloved community of Port Townsend will be sorely missed though her many contributions will stand the test of time.

The memorial service for this beloved (and sometimes feared) little woman will be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations in her name as you see fit. Cards may be sent to Marty Lind, 360 E Cedar St., Belfair, WA 98528 to be shared with the family.
