A mid-county resident under the age of 20 has tested positive for COVID-19, Jefferson County public health officials announced Thursday.
The infected resident is a male, according to Jefferson County Public Health.
The case followed a confirmed coronavirus case Tuesday that broke a weeklong trend of no additional COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County. Tuesday's reported case also involved a mid-county resident; a man in his 50s.
Two residents were still in isolation late Thursday, and county officials said another 23 residents were awaiting test results.
There have been a total of 346 COVID-19 infections in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic.
Based on age, the greatest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases — 70 in all — have been found in the age bracket of residents under the age of 20.
The next largest age group of people who have gotten the coronavirus are people in their 60s; 60 residents in that age bracket have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Jefferson County Public Health, a total of 20,966 tests have been administered for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic through April 1, and 20,597 tests have come back negative.
Through Thursday, 155 COVID cases have been found in Port Townsend residents; 155 in mid-county residents; and 36 in south county (Quilcene, Brinnon, and West Jefferson).
Based on gender, 177 males have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in Jefferson County, and 169 females have tested positive.
A total of 25 residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and two deaths have been linked to COVID-19.
County health officials reported that 336 people have recovered from COVID-19.
People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.
