Annual Rock & Roll ‘fun-raiser’ set for Saturday

Posted

A very successful 21st annual Kiwanis Golf Tournament was held last week, with proceeds benefiting Camp Beausite Northwest. Organizing Kiwanians expressed their happiness and thanks to all of the sponsors and players. Camp Beausite Executive Director Claudia Edmondson was on hand to express her appreciation.

Tickets are on sale for a great Kiwanis “Fun-Raiser,” the fourth annual PT Kiwanis Rock & Roll Party, to take place Saturday, April 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St. So, dig up those ’40s, ’50s and ’60s outfits (costumes are encouraged but optional) and get ready to tap your feet and fingers. Dance, listen, socialize and plan on having fun! Tickets are advance-sale only at just $15 for this over-21 event. Purchase tickets at

brownpapertickets.com or from any Kiwanis member. Ticket sales, a 50/50 raffle, dessert silent auction and a photo booth help support the club’s many children’s and community service projects locally. Pizza and snacks are also offered this year by donation, and an East Coast swing dance lesson is given from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The band known as The Copycats & Friends features Joey Lazzaro on trumpet, Mark Holman on sax, Tom Svornich on drums, Dave Llewellin on bass, Dawn Martin on keyboard, Don Fristoe on guitar and Dick Atkins on guitar. The band members also belt out vocals to this nostalgic music event, and some guests are to add a few special numbers. Contests for best costume and best dance will be awarded prizes. See

ptkiwanis.org for details. Questions may be directed to Dick Atkins at 385-2585.

The Kiwanis Club of Port Townsend offers its Rilla Phillips Scholarships annually in amounts up to $5,000 to all graduating seniors in Jefferson County. This year, $20,000 is available. The applications, which opened in January, are available on the Washboard website (thewashboard.org) and the deadline for submittal is April 22, 2017.

The month of May brings more fun projects for the club during the Rhody Festival. Kiwanis sponsors and manages the Kiddie Parade on Friday, May 19 followed by the club’s second annual Brats & Brew event (all ages – sodas available, too) from 4 to 8 p.m. Questions may be directed to Jan Carter (643-1186 or momsbank@hotmail.com) for the Kiddie Parade, and to Dave Crozier (531-0557 or david_crozier28@msn.com) for the Brats & Brew event.

There’s always fun things going on with the Port Townsend Kiwanis Club! We’re looking forward to the “Christmas in July” fundraiser with the FreddyPink band to benefit the Kiwanis Club’s Kids Christmas project and also to the Classic Car Show in August. More to come on those next month.
