America’s one-man crisis

Ever the statesman, presidential (and believing himself worthy of the Nobel peace prize), Donald continues to whine, brag, lie and cajole at every opportunity. He obviously has anointed himself as a silver-tongued orator capable of mesmerizing the disgruntled and gullible, assorted bullies and racists of his own stripe, etc. Articulate and sauve in his own mind — a “stable genius.”

There are many things more of a national emergency than the immigration crisis he has concocted. But even if it is legally found to qualify as one, that's not to say that some archaic wall will do anything of consequence toward dissipating the alleged emergency. We have more serious threats to our society's health and well being — global warming/climate change (which he denies on behalf of economic gluttony by the very wealthy), guns, health care, polluted air and water (which he accommodates repeatedly via executive order).

Donald Trump lies outright when he tells us Hispanic refugees are largely vicious criminals (when factual statistics tell us otherwise). He merely clouds the issue when he says most drugs entering our country don’t come through border checkpoints. He somehow never even mentions the U. S. Coast Guard, which seizes 10 times more drugs at sea than are intercepted by highway border checks. He insinuates that tons of drugs are “pouring” into the county on the backs and in the pockets of illegals wading across the Rio Grande without drowning. He lies in many ways, direct and indirectly, all for the convenience of his personal ego, an ego run amok, drunk on power.

FOR THE RECORD — Homeland Security data reports record low illegal border crossing from Mexico.

How many people are sobbing in despair or screaming in pain in our society at any given moment, as Donald Trump’s ego, decked out in mental blinders — ignoring the desperation of millions of Americans — concentrates on the malevolent monstrosity that is his envisioned border wall? Uncompassionate treatment of asylum-seekers also merely adds to the suffering and shattered dreams of ever more innocent people.

Refugees arriving at our border seeking a safe haven deserve empathetic respect rather than being spat upon. But Donald’s wall obsession is jacked up by his flagrant racism.

The stories of the lives and hopes of these refugees are heart-rending to those who will stop and listen with a compassionate ear. Donald makes every effort to paint them all — with a broad, dismissive brush — in the public mind as murderous dope smugglers and gang members. He’s determined to get his Trump monument built.

We have hunger among us, but still we must somehow finance that wall. We have children (disproportionately black) shot to death in our streets, but who cares? Premature deaths and suicides. But don’t bother Donald with such things; we must build this wall endorsing his subjugation of us all.

HOW WILDLY CAN THE TRUMPS LIE? — Yahoo news, Feb. 12: Twitter followers piled on Donald Trump Jr. after he repeated his father’s astounding lie that only 200 to 300 people attended former Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s dueling rally in El Paso, Texas, on Monday night. News outlets’ estimates for attendance at O’Rourke’s rally ranged from 7,000 to 15,000. El Paso Fire Department officials said there was a capacity crowd of 6,500 in the El Paso County Coliseum, where President Donald Trump spoke, though overflow attendees outside could have raised the number as high as 10,000, reported the El Paso Times.

At one point during his speech Monday, the president boasted that 35,000 people were at his rally. He also insisted that 69,000 people wanted to get in. He said earlier that the fire department had given organizers permission to cram 10,000 people into the coliseum — which fire officials told the Times was not true.

Earlier in the evening at the president’s rally, Donald Trump Jr. said there were only “50 people” at O’Rourke’s event. But Trump Jr. said he would be willing to increase that to 200 because of fact checkers, the Times reported.

The 1967 FEDERAL NEPOTISM LAW states, ‘A public official may not appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement, in or to a civilian position in the agency in which he is serving or over which he exercises jurisdiction or control any individual who is a relative of the public official.” Where does that leave Jared Kuschner, Donald’s son-in-law? Above the law, apparently.
