A demented dearth of character

This is the President of the United States? The “leader of the free world?” The face of American society?

On April 27, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, at one of his endless pep rallies, Donald Trump lied to a crowd of some 10,000 supporters that newborn babies in their state are wrapped in a blanket shortly after birth while the doctor and mother decide whether to “execute” them.

He pointed out that Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers had stated “he will veto legislation that protects Wisconsin babies born alive. Born alive.” (Evers promised to veto a bill that could send doctors to prison for life if they fail to give medical care to babies born alive after a failed abortion attempt.)

Donald, in a gruesomely graphic way just had to leap at this opportunity to plant poison in the public mind. He said, “The baby is born; the mother meets with the doctor; they wrap the baby beautifully; and then the doctor and mother determine whether or not they will execute the baby.”

His tone turning to incredulity, he continued: “You hear late-term, but this is where the baby is born. It’s there; it’s wrapped; that’s it.” Making a chopping motion with his hand.

As one veteran registered nurse, epitomizing reality, put it, “NO ONE ever, in any hospital, nor any mother who has just given birth, is conspiring with a doctor on whether or not to commit infanticide.”

And yet, there are deluded, distracted, deranged and dull-witted individuals among us who will vote for demented Donald and his dearth of character in 2020.
