One man died and a woman was injured in a single motorcycle accident on Center Road on Aug. 21.
A motorcycle traveling southbound apparently struck a large bird in the 5000 block of Center Road, just before the intersection with Eaglemount Road and McMillan Road at 1:57 p.m., according to East Jefferson Fire Rescue public information officer Bill Beezley.
The motorcycle veered off the shoulder of the road on the northbound side. Responding firefighters attempted to revive the man, but CPR efforts were unsuccessful.
Names of the crash victims were not available before press deadline.
“We think it was a turkey vulture,” Beezley said. He said the bird had a wingspan of about 3 feet. The bird was dark in color with a white spot near its head.
The woman on the motorcycle was treated on the scene before being flow via an Airlift Northwest helicopter, which landed at the intersection of the roads. She was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with unknown injuries.
Center Road was closed in both directions for several hours because of the accident and subsequent investigation.
