I agree that golf is a fine option for some people. That is not the issue.

For me the issue is that here in town this large piece of publicly owned property is completely dedicated to a single use for a very few residents and visitors.

I would be surprised if even 10% of PT residents and visitors play golf. So many more would enjoy having access to walking trails, bird watching, etc. on this property if were opened up to them for even a few days a week.

Suddenly after 25 years of living here, I am hearing what a great amenity this is to the youth of Port Townsend. But opening the property a day or two a year to a school field and track event, or hosting a few high school golf club members is not enough, when so many residents are forbidden to bird watch near the pond, or to cross the short stretch of greens from Walker/Cherry St to admire the spring blooms on the protected square of native prairie.
