The foregoing was submitted as a Leader blog on June 27, and on June 28 the House’s special committee aired previously unscheduled testimony on the Jan. 6, 2020, riot at the nation’s Capitol. After hearing the testimony of former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, including an account of how then-President Trump lunged at a Secret Service agent in a desperate bid to travel to the Capitol after his speech that day., it is obvious that even I had given unhinged ex-President Trump the benefit of far too much doubt in his insane pursuit of political power.
