As a reader who contacts me via another method wrote, in part: "I like how an old white guy in one of the most progressive states in the country says, 'I’ve never had a problem voting.' Like it is somehow evidence that voter suppression doesn’t exist in this country."

Meanwhile . . . Dennis Anstine worked with me at The Leader back around the ‘70s or so, and I always thought that his parents showed considerable restraint in not naming him Frank. With a Justin Hale (“Just Inhale”) long active as chief troll in this forum, I’m surprised we haven’t yet had a Frank Anstine or a Frank N. Stein.

After me, the second Camfield son was named Richard (****); and when a third son arrived a couple of years later, my father suggested naming him Harry. But my mother quickly recognized the reference to “Tom, **** and Harry” and put her foot down. Generally used in mildly derogatory contexts (i.e. “He didn't want every Tom, ****, and Harry knowing their business “) the phrase suggests a large number of ordinary or undistinguished people. The third Camfield son was finally named Ronald Harry.

The fourth was named Frederick (Ted), received his Phd in hydraulic engineering at Stanford U. and was secretary-general for 12 years of IAPSO (International Organization of Physical Sciences of the Oceans). He also taught at the University of Delaware before joining the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,

All four boys were graduates of PTHS and received degrees at various universities. My mother

was from a large poverty-ridden family and had to quit school part way through back in thr mid-'20s. She was a great believer in education.
