ABOUT US

LEGACY MEDIA

The Leader was founded in 1889 and occupies the Fowler Building in Port Townsend, as it has for more than a century. It is a physical demonstration of the value we place in our roots as a legacy newspaper and our longstanding commitment to this community.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of The Port Townsend and Jefferson County Leader is to fairly, thoroughly and accurately cover our community within the framework of standards-based professional American journalism.

We work to continuously earn the trust of our community by upholding the highest standards of journalism. We are dedicated to delivering local news that matters most to our readers, from covering the governments paid for with tax dollars and the respective services provided to police and courts, as well as businesses, schools and our creative communities. We pride ourselves on being highly responsive to the needs and concerns of our community. We listen, we engage, and we act swiftly to ensure our coverage reflects the voices of those we serve. That means being accountable with a robust corrections/clarifications policy: If we’re wrong, we admit it. We give critics full voice. We also defend ourselves when the need arises.
