Chimacum High School seniors Kendon Hopkins and Henry Nyhus Lovekamp were recently recognized by the Rotary Club of East Jefferson County for their outstanding qualities of leadership, citizenship, caring, responsibility, respect, honesty, fairness and and for stellar academics.
CHS Superintendent Rick Thompson and Rotarian Linda Kostenbader introduced the students to the club, and Peter M. Leenhouts, president, awarded certificates of achievement.
Hopkins, son of Karyn Hopkins, plans to attend Olympic Community College for two years and transfer to Western Washington University to study psychology, photography and journalism. He is captain of the Chimacum High School Color Guard, and performs in the Rhapsody Winterguard.
Lovekamp, son of Charles Lovekamp and Karen Elliott, plans to attend Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon, where he has received a 50 percent scholarship to play baseball. He is involved in the National Honor Society and the Seattle Stars baseball team. Lovekamp is a camp counselor and also coaches and umpires for the East Jefferson Little League. His other interests include art, music, outdoor adventures and cooking.
The East Jefferson County Rotary Club is one of seven Rotary clubs on the Olympic Peninsula. Members and guests of the club meet weekly at noon on Thursdays at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 W. Valley Road, Chimacum. Walk-ins are welcomed.
