Dr. Richard Hansen passed away March 23, 2019 after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Born in Jersey City in 1941, he earned a Doctorate in Psychology from Columbia University.  At Columbia, Richard was a varsity crew member and coached crew as a graduate student.  Following graduation, he served in the Navy eventually retiring from the Naval Reserve as a Captain.  Upon returning from Naval duty, he taught at City College, NYC then moved to The Psychological Corporation, before beginning a career at New York Life Insurance Company where he held a number of executive positions before retiring as Vice President of Human Resources and Personnel.  While in graduate school, Richard married Julie Horns, a music student at Columbia.  They lived for several years in New York City, before moving to Pearl River, NY.  Tragically, Julie suddenly passed away in 2004.  Richard was very active in the Palisades Presbyterian Church in Palisades, NY, and also served on the Board of the Green Meadow Waldorf School in Chestnut Ridge, NY.

In retirement, he enjoyed playing tennis, travelling, sailing his boat, and spending time with friends and family. Richard became an enthusiastic cook and was known for hosting memorable dinner parties.

In 2016 Richard moved full time to Port Townsend, WA to be close to his daughter and where he had spent many summers over the last 30 years.

Richard is survived by his daughter Jane and her husband Yefim in Port Townsend, his sister Cynthia Wormwood and her family of Scarborough, Maine and many cousins.

Richard was a generous, thoughtful, loving and kind gentleman who is greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
