The 2015 Redhawks football team is rolling through the ranks of 1A football with its 10-0 record to date, including a big win on Nov. 6 in the first round of state playoffs.

This week, on Friday Nov. 13, the team faces a tough test against Kings High School (Shoreline) in the second round of the playoffs.

The pursuit by this team hearkens back to the last time a Port Townsend football team was undefeated after 10 games. It was the 1977 team coached by Jim Parker. That squad was ranked first in state and went 10-0, including a playoff win against Castle Rock. The team lost the quarter final playoff game to the eventual state champion, Winlock.

Port Townsend resident Bobby Deen was on that team and, together with Jan Boutilier of Port Townsend High School, provided some details, a photo and the names on the team roster. Besides Parker, the team was also coached by Bob Caton and Dick Atkins. It was led by quarterback Steve Wise. Other outstanding athletes included Pete Sutherland, John Lundgren, Steve and Greg Caton, Duke Level, Dwain Rosanelli, Jim and Mike Rogers, Chuck Robinson, Fred Brooling, Ron Luck and the Freitas brothers, Jim and John.
