Northwind Reading Series highlights ‘Art Against Hate’

Posted

The next installment of the Northwind Reading Series will be a live Zoom event from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday,  Oct. 8.

It will feature a reading of the Olympic Peninsula “Take a Stand, Art Against Hate” anthology, published by Raven Chronicles press in Seattle.

The video of the reading will be available later on both the Raven Chronicles and Northwind’s Reading Series Facebook pages, according to event officials.

Contributing writers Tess Gallagher, Gary Copeland Lilley, Lawrence Matsuda, Alice Derry, Sharon M. Carter and Pat Dixon will read their work.

One of the Northwind Reading Series curators, Holly J. Hughes, will emcee and moderate a short discussion with the poets and the audience following the reading.

The Northwind Reading Series has been showcasing monthly virtual poetry readings since the Northwind Arts Center closed its doors to live performances in Port Townsend due to COVID-19.

Visit www.northwindarts.org/events to learn more.

The anthology reading is the latest in a series of such affairs.

In August, the community was invited to participate in the annual Ekphrastic event.

Poets could view the Northwind gallery exhibit online or visit the gallery, which is now open three days a week, then write a poem in response to any artwork that inspired them.

Several poems from the August Ekphrastic event are now posted on the Northwind website and a video presentation of the participating poets will be posted soon. Each poem is paired with the artwork that inspired it.
