I am a resident of the Towne Point Community. Now that it is summer, I like to take my bicycle out for a spin or just go for a walk.
Entering out onto Discovery Road is a very scary proposition. It is hard enough for two cars to pass each other, then, add a bicyclist or walker on the side of the road to the mix. My car’s suspension takes a beating every time I drive on Discovery.
This was all supposed to have been resolved by a project to redo the stretch of Discovery Road between Sheridan Street and the Rainer Street circle. A bike lane was also supposed to be added.
I’ve been hearing about this for a couple of years or more; something that I’ve been looking forward to.
Yes, COVID was part of that delay but what is the excuse now? A notice came out that bids went out earlier this year and construction was going to start in May. What happened? I am disappointed, as I will have to wait another year (or more) to feel safe venturing out onto Discovery Road. Right now the road lines need to be repainted if construction is not going to be started.
For the future, a project extension should be added to continue the Discovery remodel down to Mill Road because that section is just as bad! Just adding wider shoulders and repaving the road would suffice.
