A recreational vehicle was destroyed in an early morning fire Friday in Port Townsend.

Firefighters from East Jefferson Fire Rescue were called to a reported vehicle fire at approximately 2 a.m. Friday, March 26 in the 1800 block of 13th Street.

Staff from a nearby senior care facility saw flames and quickly alerted the resident closest to the RV, according to East Jefferson Fire Rescue, and one resident evacuated their home before the fire department arrived.

A volunteer firefighter was the first to arrive at the fire and found an RV fully engulfed in flames.

Engine 16 and Engine 15 from East Jefferson Fire Rescue responded to the scene and put out the RV fire.

Officials with the department said another vehicle, several homes and nearby trees were at risk of catching fire, and the blaze was put out by 2:14 a.m.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check nearby structures for potential fire hazards but no hot spots were found.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
