Jerry Hampton owns several high-powered hot rods, but none shake him as much as the “ride” he took June 28 in this 354-hemi engine, nitro-fed top fuel dragster.

There's nothing like the hottest day of the year - so far - to set the stage for a nice car show.

The fifth annual Rakers Cruz In on June 28 brought about 146 vehicles to Memorial Athletic Field in Port Townsend. Special attractions were a pair of dragsters from the 1960s, which when fired up, were loud enough to blow your socks off.

"It's been a great day," said Mike Hammers, Rakers president. "Things have gone well, and we appreciate all the people who came."

Trophy winners

The People's Choice trophy went to Dick Ellison for his fabulous 1958 Corvette.

Businesses and individuals sponsored trophies that they awarded based on any criteria they chose.

Rakers members were not eligible for trophies.
