It is very sad that we live in a time where we have so much pollution in our atmosphere. Global warming seems to be getting out of hand.

Many people are getting so frustrated with our current president and his team of naysayers denying the truth about the causes of climate change, or if it even exists. Some of you may be asking, “What can I do to help?” Well, here are a few suggestions:

If you have the money, switch to an electric car or hybrid.

If you have a woodstove and the forecast calls for us having an air stagnation advisory, please don’t burn unless it’s the only means to heat your home. Believe it or not, people with asthma are greatly affected when the air is unbreathable.

Please use discretion when driving your ICEV (internal combustion engine vehicle). Are these trips absolutely necessary?

Write or call your elected officials and tell them how important it is to you to invest in renewable energies like wind, solar, geothermal and wave. We should have a national program to recycle these ICEVs in favor of government vouchers to pay for at least half of the cost of these energy-saving electric vehicles.

I believe that a program such as this will pay for itself in no time with saving lives on health-related air pollution problems such as asthma, emphysema, tuberculosis. Not to mention, the decrease in carbon emissions in our atmosphere, over time, could reduce the number of intense weather systems that tragically take the lives of so many people each year.

It’s going to be an uphill battle with the current administration. But we need to start somewhere.
