As local clergy and religious leaders in East Jefferson County, we are in a position to witness first-hand the growing problem of housing affordability and homelessness both within our individual congregations and beyond by those who come to us looking for assistance.
We do what we can on both fronts, but these issues cannot be remedied except by coming together as a larger community.
Thus, as leaders of faith communities concerned about our larger community and committed to preserving the affordability of living in this community, we join our voices in urging a “yes” vote on Proposition 1, believing it is a step in the right direction.
In signing this letter, we do so as individuals and not on behalf of the members of our congregations, who, of course, are free to vote their consciences on this public policy matter.
THE REV. BRUCE BODE
Port Townsend
Editor’s note: This letter was submitted by the Rev. Bruce Bode and signed by the Rev. Dianne Andrews, the Rev. Tony Brown, preacher Carl Hanson, pastor Paul R. Heins, the Rev. Dale Kelley, the Rev. Kate Lore and Sarah McMahan and pastor Skip Cadorette.
