The City of Port Townsend is seeking volunteers who are willing to bust out their wheelbarrows and work gloves to help maintain trails near the city’s 35th Street Park.
The volunteer work party is 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Nov. 18.
Low spots are to be filled in, and parts of the trail along the 33rd Street corridor near Hancock Street are to be resurfaced, according to a press release.
The pathway is an important connector to the trail system in the 35th Street Park area. Port Townsend trail crew volunteers are to haul and spread gravel at low spots to keep the trail above water during the rainy winter season.
Those interested in participating should meet at 9 a.m. at Hancock and 32nd streets, where the gravel pile is to be located. Parking is available along the paved residential roads. The easiest access is to follow Hancock Street north from Hastings Avenue about four blocks to 32nd Street.
Volunteers should bring wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes for moving and spreading gravel, and pruners and loppers to trim overgrown vegetation.
Sturdy work boots and gloves are recommended, and appropriate clothing for the weather, be it rain or shine, the release states.
Snacks are available once work is completed.
