Port Townsend Police report that they received information on Oct. 15 that Max Wood may be in Nevada. They notified local authorities and Wood was found there traveling on the highway.

Port Townsend Police were contacted by the White Plains Sheriff’s Office whose deputies had located Wood. They reported Wood only appeared to have superficial scratches and there was no indication he had suffered serious stab wounds or had been attacked. They stated Wood appeared to be suffering from mental illness and that his behavior was consistent with what is known about him from our local area. They attempted to get a statement from Wood about the assault but say he was not very cooperative. Wood was not an immediate danger to himself or others and the deputies released him and his whereabouts are now unknown.

Police say the investigation so far has indicated that Wood was not attacked and there is no danger to the local public.

The Port Townsend Police Department is still investigating the case and plan to release more details when available. The Port Townsend Police Department wants to reiterate that the evidence presented leads them to believe no attack occurred and they are not looking for any suspects at this time.

Port Townsend police are looking for Max Wood, a Des Moines, Washington area man, after he reported being stabbed in a room at the Aladdin Motel. Wood moved to Port Townsend in the last couple of months.

Wood is a 6-foot-tall, white man weighing about 160 pounds. He has short, gray hair and green eyes, according to authorities.

He is possibly driving a 2014 White Ford F-150 truck, WA LIC# C35403B. The truck was last seen to have writing on the passenger side and what appears to be a skeleton in the passenger seat.

Wood called a non-emergency, JeffCom line at 3:08 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13 reporting he was stabbed the previous night. Wood reported blood in a room at the Aladdin Motel in Port Townsend. The line was disconnected before the call-taker could get more information or a callback number.

Officers responded to the motel and located the room Wood was staying in. Officers found evidence that someone had been injured. Officers said they found knives, blood and a note requesting help. There was no sign of Wood or where he might have gone.

Authorities say Wood is known to suffer from mental illness and investigations have not been able to rule out that the injuries were self-inflicted. No possibilities have been ruled out as the investigation is ongoing, they say.

At 4:50 p.m. on Oct. 13, officers obtained the GPS location of Wood's cell phone, with coordinates pointing to unincorporated east Pierce County.

At 5:30 p.m., officers requested the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office attempt to locate Max Wood and/or his vehicle in the vicinity of the GPS coordinates provided. Law enforcement in Pierce County were unable to locate Wood at the provided coordinates.

Wood moved to Jefferson County in the last couple months but previously resided in the area of Des Moines and Normandy Park. Law enforcement in that area have been notified and attempted to locate Wood but have been unsuccessful.

At this time the Port Townsend Police Department is looking to check the welfare of Wood and try to obtain more information on what occurred at the motel.

The Port Townsend Police Department is asking anyone who saw Wood or his truck after Oct. 12 to call with information. They are asked to call JeffCom at 360-385-3831 ext. 1.
