To market, to market ...

The opening day of the Port Townsend Farmers Market on Saturday, April 1 drew about 2,700 people who roamed through stands of kale, purple sprouting broccoli and farm-fresh eggs; played with chickens and baby goats; and tasted sweet and savory fare from food carts.

“We are really thankful for all of the folks who came out for opening day,” said market director Amanda Milholland. “Community support is so important this time of year when our farmers have invested heavily in seeds, soil amendments and tools for the season.

“Thank you, community, for helping nurture the last 25 years of farmers. Your support is essential for the health of our local farms over the next 25 years.”

In celebration of the 25th season for the Saturday Market, community members are invited to write “love letters” to the market, or their favorite vendor or perhaps vegetables throughout the year.

Visit the market booth for more information about love letters to farmers or to borrow a pen and paper for your own letter.
