The World, a 644-foot privately owned cruise ship, is anchored in Port Townsend bay today. It is to depart July 6.
“They are tendering passengers over to Union Wharf,” said Kimberly Matej, communications coordinator for the Port of Port Townsend.
According the ship’s website, it is the largest private residential ship in the world, with 165 residences.
The ship was built by Fosen Yard in Norway and was launched in 2002.
According to the website, the ship has 280 crew members, carries 150-200 passengers, has 12 decks and can travel at a speed of 18.5 knots. The ship is privately owned by residents of The World – 142 families from 19 countries.
“From what we understand, The World cruises the entire globe and will visit our area about once every five years,” Matej said.
