Clarke is 2-time Olympic League XC champ

Ryan Clarke became a two-time Olympic League cross country champion with a 5-kilometer win Oct. 23 in Sequim.

Overall, the Port Townsend High School boys’ varsity placed third among nine teams and the girls’ team was seventh overall.

The high school teams ran a 5 kilometer course at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course while the middle school competitors completed a 3k loop.

The PTHS boys varsity took third in the nine team field behind Sequim and Port Angeles, both 2A schools, with a score of 20-90-95.

Senior Clarke clinched a decisive victory in 16:00, 26 seconds ahead of Sequim’s Brendon Despain. PT’s second runner was sophomore Brennan LaBrie (17:24, 14th overall) followed by senior Mark Streett (18:08, 23rd), sophomore Alejandro Montanez (18:18, 28th), and senior Sean Dwyer (18:25, 31st) to round out the scoring five.

The Redhawk girls were led by senior Hanna Trailer (21:10, 7th overall) to a 7th place team finish. Points came from ninth-grader Ally Bradley (22:19, 21st), sophomore Amelia Grant (23:06, 29th), ninth-grader Meigan Kunz (25:20, 46th), and sophomore Shauna Lynch (27:56, 62nd).

In the JV boys race, Sequim won the title and PT placed 4th. Senior Joel Mackey (19:20, 5th overall) was followed by frosh Jesus Duran (20:14, 16th), junior Jackson Schott (20:36, 23rd), junior Adam Braude (20:49, 32nd), and senior Zephyr Petrick (22:38, 51st).

The varsity runners compete Saturday, Nov. 1 at American Lake Veterans Golf Course in Tacoma to determine district qualifiers for the state meet Nov. 8 in Pasco.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Blue Heron Middle School teams also traveled to The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course to compete in a 3k course.

The Blue Heron boys placed 2nd to Stevens Middle School with a score of 15-48. Seventh graders Aaron Lee (12:27, 7th overall), Kincaid Gould (12:52, 8th), Seamus Fraser (13:08, 13th), Jacob Madison (13:58, 16th) and eighth-grader Viggo Watson (18:43, 23rd) were the scoring five. Post-race Kincaid reported that the course was “OK” and Seamus that it was “about 2 miles to short [for him].” BH girls who competed were Gwen Cooley (15:06, 9th) and Skylar Stekly (17:17, 14th).

The Herons’ last meet is Oct. 29 at Lincoln Park in Port Angeles.
