Opening day boat parade and blessing of the fleet – sponsored by the Port Townsend Yacht Club (PTYC) – is 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2. The yacht club invites all interested boaters and rowers to participate in the annual opening day boat parade; the public may view the waterfront parade from the Northwest Maritime Center pier, Pope Marine Park, or other convenient locations along the waterfront.
Marilynne Gates, of the PTYC, addresses spectators from the reviewing stand on the pier, describing the boats and participants as they pass. Mayor David King is also present to welcome the community to the annual event. Pastor Tony Brown of Trinity Methodist Church conducts the traditional blessing of the fleet. For more information, contact Duane Madinger, fleet captain, at 385-5651 or
