Race heats up between Jefferson Co. Commission D3, Prosecutor and Sheriff

During filing week for the primary elections, 16 candidates threw their hat in the ring to potentially fill the positions and starting a race for position of Jefferson County Commissioner District 3, Prosecutor and Sheriff.

In total, 16 had filed between the dates of May 14-18. 

Jefferson County  Assessor

Jefferson County Assessor Jeff Chapman, of Port Townsend, filled to keep his position, which is a four-year partisan term. 

Chapman, who registered under the Democratic Party, filed  May 14 and is unopposed.

 

Commission D3

Four people are vying for Kathleen Klar’s position as Jefferson County District 3 Commissioner. Klar is not seeking re-election.

Greg Brothernton, of Quilcene, filed May 14 under the Democratic Party.

Jon Cooke, of Quilcene, filed May 14 under the Republican Party.

Ryan McAllister, of Quilcene, filed May 17 under the Democratic Party.

Craig Durgan, of Port Hadlock, filed May 18 under the Democratic Party.

 

Jefferson County Auditor

Rose Ann Carroll, of Port Townsend, filed May 14 to keep her seat as the county’s auditor which is a four-year term.

Carroll, who registered under the Democratic Party, filed May 14 and is unopposed.

 

Jefferson County Clerk

Ruth Gordon, of Port Townsend, filed May 14 to keep her seat as the county’s Jefferson County Clerk, which is a four-year term.

Gordon, who registered under the Democratic Party, is unopposed. 

 

Jefferson County Prosecutor and Coroner

Two people are vying for Michael Haas’s positions as Jefferson County Prosecutor. Haas official filed May 17 for re-election.

James Kennedy, of Chimacum, filed May 14 under the Democratic Party.

 

Sheriff

Two People are vying for David Stanko’s position as Jefferson County Sheriff. Stanko filed May 2 for re-election.

Joe Nole, of Chimacum, filed May 17 under the Democratic Party.

 

Jefferson County Treasurer

Stacie Prada, of Port Townsend, May 14 to keep her seat as Jefferson County Treasurer. 

She filed under the Democratic Party and is currently serving in the four-year role and is unopposed.

 

District Court

Two people have filed for the Jefferson County District Court Judge position, which is currently held by Jill Landes. Landes has announced she will not be seeking re-election in the nonpartisan position.

Mindy Walker, of Port Townsend, and  Noah Harrison, of Port Townsend, both filed May 14.

 

PUD Commission D3

Two people are vying for Wayne King’s position as PUD Commissioner 3. King is not seeking re-election.

Daniel Toepper, of Port Ludlow, filed May 14, while Tom Brotherton, of Quilcene, filed May 16.

 

State Representative

Two peole filed for the Legislative District 24 pos. 1 two-year term.

Mike Chapman, of Port Angeles, who currently holds the position, will go up against Jodi Wilke, a Republican from Port Hadlock.

Two people are also vying for the second position, Steve Tharinger, of Port Townsend, who currently holds the seat and Jime McEntire, a Republican from Sequim.
