During the team’s second match up of the season, the Quilcene Rangers winning streak is 2-0.
The Rangers came out ahead by 30 points against Crescent Sept. 7 with the game ending at 52-22.
“It is the first time that (Elkins) Holdem played an entire varsity football game at quarterback,” said coach Trey Beathard. “He had a good night, throwing for four touchdowns.”
The defense and special teams “led the way,” according to Beathard, which gave the offense a short field to work with.
“Olin Reynolds returned two punts for touchdowns,” Beathard said. “The first one was an 80-yard return and the second was a 40-yard return. With Reynolds on the bench catching his breath, Isaac Dugdale returned the next punt 75 yards for another touchdown. Dugdale also had three kickoff returns for a total of 85 yards and Brennen Filmer returned the opening kickoff for 35 yards.”
Leading the team in tackles were Bishop and Zach Budnek, Robert Comstock III, Dustin Hughes and Kristian Mack.
“The second touchdown was an 81-yard run by Reynolds behind a knockdown block from Zach Budnek on the Loggers linebacker,” Beathard said. “Bishop Budnek rain in the extra point, breaking several tackles to get in the end zone.”
Later in the game, Bishop Budnek caused a fumble and his brother recovered it.
“Comstock opened a big hole that Reynolds ran through for a 40-yard touchdown,” the coach said. “Comstock then caught a pass for the 2-point conversion, one of three conversion passes he caught in the game.”
On Sept. 14 the Rangers travel to Neah Bay to play the always tough Red Devils team, winners of four 1B state champions in football since 2011.
